Today we left Clervaux Luxembourg and headed to La Rouche Belgium. It was a 47-mile hilly ride today through the Ardennes Forest and into the farmland of Belgium. The Ardennes Forest is so thick and to think to World Wars used this forest to attack Belgium into France. The farmland from Luxembourg into Belgium was grains and corn. Belgium is known for the little characters called gnomes. In fact, we stopped at brewery where gnomes where the main characters.
I learned today about Trappist beers. These are beers that are made in monasteries. The monks would make the beer originally for them, it was called liquid bread. They started selling the ales for extra income. The rules are only monks can make the beers and all profits must go back into the community is some form. It has gotten so strict that there is a label a trappist beer must have to be considered one.
The ride was beautiful today in both countries. The old-world architecture is so cool. The communities are very close knit and have activities for all ages. It is so peaceful on these roads with my bike. I have added some more pictures.
Good night and thanks for reading.
